The Illinois State University Percussion Ensemble will present its "Marimbas of Spring" concert on Sunday, April 11, at 7 p.m. in the University's Center for the Performing Arts. Admission to the performance is $6 for the general public, $5 for faculty and staff, and $4 for students and seniors.
The ensemble, under the direction of David L. Collier, director of percussion studies, will perform pieces that focus on the diverse use of keyboard percussion instruments. The program will include Adagio by Samuel Barber and Diabolic Variations by Raymond Helble. Both of these large works explore the incredible sonic possibilities of the expanded keyboard percussion ensemble.
Two unique and captivating works for smaller ensembles will be showcased during the concert. Serving Size 4 Bunnies by Illinois State faculty composer Carl Schimmel "depicts different anthropomorphized bunnies, each of whom exists in a unique emotional state." Bloom by Michael McIntosh tells of the struggles of bee pollination in springtime. The ensemble will also present Equal Fire by Paul Bissell, Between the Lines by Lynn Glassock and Threads by Paul Lansky.
