Darrell Kruger, associate dean for research, graduate and international studies in Illinois State University's College of Education has been named an American Council on Education (ACE) Fellow for the 2010-11 academic year.  Kruger is one of forty-six ACE Fellows chosen nationwide this year for the prestigious program.

The ACE Fellows Program, established in 1965, is designed to strengthen institutions and leadership in American higher education by identifying and preparing promising senior faculty and administrators for responsible positions in college and university administration.  ACE Fellows focus on an issue of concern for their home institution while spending an academic year working with administrators at another college or university.

As an ACE Fellow, Kruger will spend the 2010-11 academic year at another college or university studying that host institution's campus-wide approach to international education.  He will focus on how various departments and units at that school work together to make international education an integral part of its curriculum and overall educational mission.  Kruger is currently working to finalize arrangements with a host institution.

"In the short time that I have been at Illinois State, I have benefitted immensely from the administrative leadership opportunities that have been given to me" said Kruger.  "The ACE Fellowship will enable me to further grow and develop as a leader and to give back to Illinois State upon my return."

In addition to the host campus experience, The ACE Fellows Program includes numerous interactive learning experiences for participants.  Fellows attend three week-long retreats on higher education issues, read extensively in the field and engage in other activities to enhance their knowledge about the challenges and opportunities confronting higher education.

"The ACE Fellowship is recognition of the excellence of our colleague Darrell Kruger, and a tremendous honor for Illinois State," said Provost Sheri Noren Everts. "I am tremendously pleased for Darrell and delighted for the University."

"The College of Education is very proud that Darrell Kruger has been selected to be an ACE Fellow in 2010-2011" said College of Education Dean Deborah Curtis. "The program provides high quality immersion experiences for talented higher education leaders across the country. Illinois State will benefit greatly from the knowledge and skills that he will bring back to our campus."

Founded in 1918, ACE is the major coordinating body for all the nation's higher education institutions, representing more than 1,600 college and university presidents, and more than 200 related associations, nationwide. It seeks to provide leadership and a unifying voice on key higher education issues and influence public policy through advocacy, research, and program initiatives.
