Andrew Rummel Faculty Tuba Recital Oct. 7

Assistant Professor Andrew Rummel of Illinois State University will present a tuba recital at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall.  Tickets are $6 for the general public, $5 for faculty-staff and $4 for students and senior citizens.

Rummel, who will be accompanied by pianist Gloria Cardoni-Smith, will perform Tomaso Albinoni's Concerto in D minor, opus 9, No. 2, arranged by Walter Hilgers, and Darrol Barry's Concerto for Tuba.  He will continue with Sonata for Tuba and Piano, opus 34 by Trygve Madsen and "Tubastone No. 1"by Andy Emler.  He will close the recital with the tradition work, "Swedish Hymn," arranged by Peter Graham.

Rummel, who is a native of Delavan, Ill., is pursuing his doctorate in musical arts at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.  He is a bachelor's and master's degree graduate of Illinois State.   Currently a substitute tubist with the Illinois Symphony Orchestra, Rummel was the principal tubist with the United States Air Force Heritage of America Band and the heritage Brass Quintet, located at Langley Air Force base in Virginia.  During that time, he also was the instructor of tuba at Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Va., and was the substitute tubist with the Virginia Symphony in Norfolk.
