Date: 9/12/08

Contact: Marc Lebovitz

A concert to dedicate the new Steinway grand piano in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall will take place at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16.  Grand pianos for the concert hall and University Galleries, and an upright in the CPA Theatre have been purchased with the help of the Friends of the Arts, the Office of the Provost and the College of Fine Arts.

Tuesday's concert will feature various faculty performers and is part of the Charles Bolen Faculty Recital Series.  Tickets are $6 for the general public, $5 for faculty-staff and $4 for students and senior citizens.

Performers will include pianists Paul Borg, Karyl Carlson, Carlyn Morenus, Shu Li, David Horine, Tuyen Tonnu, Su-Kyung Ji, John Muir and Patty Foltz.  Others on the program are tenor Christopher Hollingsworth, flutist Elivi Varga, cellist Adriana LaRosa-Ransom and bassoonist Michael Dicker.

Last May, four pianists from Illinois State traveled to the Steinway Company showroom in New York City to view, play and select the new concert grand piano for the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall.   The pianists tested the pianos, narrowing down their selection to finally, unanimously, chose the piano that was delivered to campus in early June.
