His program will include Suite No. 9 in D minor by Robert de Visée, Nocturnal (after John Dowland), opus 70 by Benjamin Britten and excerpts from "Sacred Profanity" by Gregory Wanamaker. Rubio will conclude his program with three works by Léo Brouwer - "Pieza sin titulo," "Ojos brujos" and "Danza del altiplano" - and three Jorge Morel pieces titled "Danza Brasilera," "Peruvian Folk Song" and Danza in E minor.
Before joining the SUNY-Potsdam faculty, Rubio headed the guitar program at Illinois State. He has performed throughout the United States as a soloist and chamber musician, and has been the featured concerto soloist with the Montecito (California) and Pennsylvania Centre chamber orchestras, and the Orchestra of Northern New York. His Avalon Guitar Duo won First Prize in the 1985 Guitar Foundation of America International Duo Guitar Competition, and is featured on the compact disc "GFA Winners Circle 1982-1993."
Rubio performs frequently with Sweet, Fair & Wise, a trio of flute, tenor voice, and guitar. His eclectic background also includes three years as a member of the Digital Arts Consort, a MIDI synthesizer ensemble. Rubio received his bachelor's degree from the University of California at Irvine, and holds both master of music and doctor of musical arts degrees in classical guitar performance from the University of Southern California.
