Ruth V. Russell will present "Passion Play: When Leisure Really Matters" as the 2008 Esther Larson McGinnis Scholar Lecture, sponsored by Illinois State University's School of Kinesiology and Recreation. Russell will speak on Wednesday, Oct. 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Bone Student Center Old Main Room. The presentation is free and open to the public.
Russell is a professor of recreation, park and tourism studies at Indiana University, Bloomington. Russell's scholarship and teaching focuses on the foundations of leisure, leisure behavior theory and tourism in developing regions. She is the author of Pasttimes: The Context of Contemporary Leisure.
Financial support for the lecture series is provided by the Esther Larson McGinnis Fund. The fund is named in honor of the late 1946 graduate who willed a portion of her estate to the University to support women's physical education.
