Percussion ensembles both large and small will be featured in the fall concert by the Illinois State University Percussion Ensemble at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 2, in Kemp Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.
Under the direction of David Collier, the concert program will include "Terra Cotta Warriors" by James Campbell and "Sky Ghost" by Russell Hartenberger. Both chamber works illuminate the intricacies that are possible between with small number of performers utilizing a myriad of instruments.
Two other works, which feature a larger percussion ensemble, will be "Mercury Rising" by Nathan Daughtrey and "Toccata" by Carlos Chávez. "Mercury Rising" is a very stimulating, rhythmic work that utilizes the standard percussion instruments. "Toccata" is one of the earliest works for percussion ensemble. It provides a unique historical contrast to the other works
Members of the Percussion Ensemble are Ryan Borden, Derek Boughey, Matt Boze, Dan Bretz, Tim Daniels, Kyle Johnson, Patrick Keelan, Andrew Novak, Zach Oostem and Lawrence Rogers.
