You do not need to be eighteen years old, a resident of any particular precinct, a U.S. citizen or even a registered voter to take part in the mock presidential election at Illinois State University's Milner Library on Tuesday, October 28.
The polling station for the mock election, the Teaching Materials Center on Milner Library's Floor Six, will be open from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. Students, faculty, staff and community members of all ages are invited to cast ballots for the presidential candidate of their choice. The mock balloting will be a great way to introduce young, future voters to the election process. Results will be announced by Friday, Oct. 31.
Milner Library faculty have also partnered with Curriculum and Instruction 258 (Social Studies Methods) classes, taught by Don Gillan, to create mock election kits for nearly one dozen schools across Central Illinois. The kits include ballots, ballot boxes and other supplies that allow schools to conduct their own mock elections. The project, funded by a University Research Grant, is part of Milner Library's efforts to help teachers incorporate civic and political engagement into classroom activities.
