One Halloween concert on Oct. 31 will feature three jazz big bands, all comprised of students at Illinois State University. The annual Halloween jazz concert at Illinois State University will feature Jazz Ensembles I, II and III at 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 31, in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall.
Tickets are $6 for the general public, $5 for fauclty-staff and $4 for students and senior citizens. Tickets can be purchased at the CPA box office or by phone at (309) 438-2535.
Associate Professor Tom Marko directs all three jazz groups. The concert will begin with Jazz Ensemble III performing "Corner Pocket" by Freddie Green and Don Wolf, arranged by Mark Taylor; "Embraceable You" by George and Ira Gershwin, arranged by Roy Phillipe; "St. Thomas" by Sonny Rollins, arranged by Roland Barrett; and "It Don't mean a Thing" (if it Ain't Got That Swing) by Duke Ellington and Irving Mills, arranged by Mark Taylor.
Jazz Ensemble II will perform "Cajun Cookin'" by Denis Diblasio; "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat" by Charles Mingus, arranged by Andrew Homzy; "Just You, Just Me" by Jesse Greer and Raymond Klages, arranged by George Stone; and "Broadway" by Byrd/McRae/Woode, arranged by Sammy Nestico
Closing the concert, Jazz Ensemble I will play "Song for Bilbao" by Pat Metheney and arranged by Alan Baylock; "Exactly Like This" by Tom Kubis; "Belly Roll" by Quincy Jones, arranged by Quincy Jones and Sammy Nestico; 'Spring Can Really" by Tommy Wolf and Fran Landesman; "Hang You Up the Most" arranged by Kris Berg; "Red Clay" by Freddie Hubbard, arranged by Bob Washut; and "One Note Samba" by Antonio Carlos Jobim, arranged by Mike Tomaro.
