Arthur Levine, author, higher education scholar and president of the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship, will be on the Illinois State University campus Nov. 17 and 18 to participate in a summit meeting of Illinois colleges of education and to give a free public presentation.
Levine will be the featured presenter at "Building a Meaningful Educational Accountability System: A Summit," held on Monday, Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Room 118 of Illinois State's Alumni Center, 1101 N. Main, Normal. The meeting will bring together administrators from colleges of education from across Illinois, and officials from the Illinois Board of Higher Education (IBHE) and Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE). The event is co-sponsored by Illinois State University and the Illinois Association of Deans of Public Colleges of Education (IADPCE).
The free public presentation, "An Evening with Dr. Arthur Levine," will take place Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m. in Room 118 of the Alumni Center. Levine is the former president of the Teachers College at Columbia University and is a renowned researcher and author on the improvement of higher education. His recent work focuses on how to increase educational opportunity for all students by strengthening the reach of teacher education institutions.
Levine's books include When Hope and Fear Collide: A Portrait of Today's College Student, with Jeanette S. Cureton; Beating the Odds: How the Poor Get to College, with Jana Nidiffer; and Higher Learning in America.
