The winners of the 2008 American Association of University Women-Bloomington-Normal High School Senior Essay Contest will be announced in a ceremony at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 10, at Barnes and Noble Booksellers on East Empire in Bloomington. The event is free and open to the public.
It is the fourth year for the contest, which is held jointly by the AAUW-BN and Illinois State University.
The first-place winner receives a $125 scholarship. The second-place award, sponsored by the ISU Physics Teacher Education (PTE) Program, is $100 and a certificate. Third place is $75 and a certificate, sponsored by the ISU American Democracy Project (ADP). Fourth- through sixth-place receives $50, sponsored by ADP and PTE. The remaining essayists receive a certificate of honorable mention.
Before that ceremony, at 5 p.m., the third annual AAUW-BN Women Book Authors Forum will take place at Barnes and Noble, with featured authors from ISU, Nobuko Adachi, Anthropology; Lucinda McCray Beier, History; and Sally E. Parry, associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences and director of General Education. The three will also participate in a book signing.
