Ceramics, jewelry, paintings, lithographs and other works of art created by Illinois State University School of Art students and faculty will be available for sale at reasonable prices in the Center for the Visual Arts and in Centennial East on Friday, Dec. 5. Proceeds from the sales benefit the School of Art and the respective art programs.
The 24th annual printmakers' sale and exhibition will be from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in room 127 in the Center for the Visual Arts. All sale items will be original artworks by Illinois State faculty, staff and students, and selected impressions from Normal Editions Workshop also will be on display for sale. Prices range from $2 to $50.
The ceramics program will sell works by students, faculty and alumni from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the "airport lounge," the hallway in Centennial East building just past Westhoff Theatre. Student-made metalwork and jewelry also will be available for sale in the airport lounge. Student paintings will be shown and available for sale in the University Gallery during the same hours.
The annual Glass House Holiday Art Sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, in the Glass House located at the northwest corner of Willow and Main streets in Normal. Glass sculpture and functional glass pieces created by undergraduate and graduate students, as well as faculty work, will be for sale. There will be glassblowing demonstrations throughout the day, one of the highlights of a visit to the Glass House.
The print sale will include five silent auctions, with bids to be submitted before and during the sale to faculty members Richard Finch, James Butler or Veda Rives; by e-mail to normaleditionsworkshop@ilstu.edu; by U.S. mail or in person. Bids must be submitted by 5 p.m. on Dec. 5.
One item to be auctioned is a portfolio of 10 individual impressions from 10 artists. The retail value is $1,500 for the suite and $150 per print. The minimum bid is $900 for the suite and $100 for an individual print. A lithograph by Wayne Kimball titled "Two Birds and a Bad Dive" is the second silent auction item. The retail value of the piece, unframed, is $350. The minimum bid for the piece, framed, is $200.
"Plank," a one-color lithograph by John Himmelfarb is available in the silent auction. The retail value of "Plank," unframed, is $400. The minimum bid for the piece, framed, is $200. The fourth item in the silent auction is Harold Boyd's "Child and Bully," a one-color lithograph with a retail value, unframed, of $125. The minimum bid for the framed piece is $100. A nine-inch square four-color woodcut, monotype and collé by Sarah Smelser is being auctioned. The unframed retail value is $400 and the minimum bid for the framed piece is $200.
Proceeds from the raffle and silent auctions go to support the ISU printmaking program.
