Richard Vine, senior editor for Asia at Art in America magazine, will present a lecture at noon Wednesday, Nov. 12, in the third floor east lounge of Bone Student Center. Vine, a frequent visitor to the People's Republic of China, will discuss various movements in post-Tiananmen art (e.g., the Stars group, Scar Art, '85 Art New Wave, Political Pop, Cynical Realism) while examining works by many key figures.
Admission is free and open to the public. Vine's lecture is presented by the School of Art Visiting Artist Program, the Unit for International Linkages, and the Office of International Studies and Programs.
Vine has published numerous articles as well as a new book titled "New China, New Art," which surveys art in China from 1976 to the present He holds a Ph.D. in literature from the University of Chicago and has served as editor-in-chief of the Chicago Review and of Dialogue: An Art Journal. He has taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the American Conservatory of Music, the University of Riyadh in Saudi Arabia, the New School for Social Research and New York University.
His articles have appeared in various journals and in numerous art catalogues and critical compendiums.
