Baritone Scott LaGraff, an assistant professor of voice at Stephen F. Austin State University and a frequent operatic, concert and recital performer, will present a free recital at 7 p.m. Monday, March 16, in Kemp Recital Hall at Illinois State University.
The Athens, Ohio, native was a member of the Tri-Cities Opera Resident Artist Training Program in Binghamton, New York, where he sang the title roles in "Don Giovanni" and "Le Nozze di Figaro," the villains in "Les Contes d'Hoffmann" and Capulet in "Roméo et Juliette." He has also appeared with the Syracuse, Tulsa, Pensacola, East Texas and Westchester Hudson opera companies.
LaGraff received the Bachelor of Music degree from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, the Master of Music degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton, and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Louisiana State University. Prior to joining the faculty at Stephen F. Austin, he held teaching positions at Simpson College in Indianola, Iowa; Cornell University in Ithaca, New York; and Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.
