Artist Jutta Strohmaier, who will be an artist in residence at Illinois State University's School of Art, will present a free lecture on her work at noon Tuesday, March 31, in the University Galleries. Strohmaier will be in residence from March 23 to May 1.
Strohmaier's work shifts between many different dimensions of presentation, and reality appears to be rather a matter of viewpoint than a fixed idea. Blurring the borders between photography, video and drawings, as well as between analog and digital images, she investigates and deconstructs traditional spatial concepts and depictions.
She studied architecture, philosophy, painting, photography and new media at various universities in Vienna, Austria. Strohmaier is the recipient of several art awards and was an IASPIS artist in residence in Gothenborg, Sweden. Her solo exhibitions include the Museum of Modern Art in Salzburg, Austria; the Neue Galerie, Graz, Austria, and Hohenlohe Gallery in Vienna.
Strohmaiere also has participated in several international group exhibitions, including Centro Ducale, Madrid; Charlottenborg Exhibition Hall, Copenhagen; Arthall Gothenborg, Sweden; Sculptura 2002 in Falkenberg, Sweden; and the Museum of Modern Art in Passau, Germany.
