Karen Callan Stoiber, a professor of educational psychology at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, will be the featured speaker at the 12th annual School Psychology Institute Day at Illinois State University on Thursday, April 9.
Stoiber will present a skill-based workshop on "Countering Chaos in the Classroom with Evidence-Based Practices" from 8:30 -11:30 am inRoom 118 of the Alumni Center, 1101 N. Main, Normal. Stoiber will discuss practical strategies for classroom management that have produced positive outcomes for all students, including those with challenging behaviors. The workshop is free for area school psychologists, social workers, and guidance counselors, but pre-registration is required by contacting School Psychology Institute Director Steven Landau at selandau@ilstu.edu
The School Psychology Institute Day will also feature a research colloquium for students and faculty from 2-3 p.m. in DeGarmo Hall Room 551. Stoiber will present "Response to Intervention (RtI): Application to Behavioral Concerns."
Stoiber is director of the School Psychology Program at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Her research and applied interests include evidence-based practices, functional assessment, school reform, risk and resilience, and social competence development. She consults with schools in the area of school reform, reducing school violence, and positive behavior support.
