Two prominent contemporary philosophers will give free public lectures on the Illinois State University campus on Thursday and Friday, April 9 & 10. The presentations, part of the Department of Philosophy's colloquia and guest speaker series, will be held at 4 p.m. on both days in Stevenson Hall Room 401.
Marilyn Friedman will present "How to Blame People Responsibly" on Thursday, April 9. Friedman is a professor of philosophy at Washington University in St. Louis. Her research and teaching focuses on the areas of social and political philosophy, ethics and feminist theory.
On Friday, April 10, Larry May will present "Collective and Individual Intent in Genocide Prosecutions." May is also a professor of philosophy at Washington University in St. Louis. As a political philosopher, he has worked on conceptual issues in collective and shared responsibility, as well as normative issues in international criminal law.
