Grants Support Projects at Milner Library

Date: 3/31/09

Contact: Eric Jome

Grant funding from The Friends of Milner Library organization is helping to enhance library holdings and facilitate public outreach efforts.  The grants support new and ongoing projects by Milner Library faculty members.

Vanette Schwartz, history librarian, has received funds to purchase microfilm of the Bloomington Leader newspaper, published between1870 and 1897.  The Leader was once one of three newspapers in Bloomington. Milner Library already owns microfilm of the Pantagraph and the Bulletin newspapers.  The addition of this set will provide Milner patrons with a more complete collection of local area newspapers.

Bruce Stoffel, coordinator of reference, and Jean MacDonald, literature librarian, have received funding to purchase the latest in popular fiction and non-fiction books, including best sellers in digital audio file format.  The collection is intended to provide students, faculty, and staff with recreational reading opportunities important to a well-rounded education and life-long learning.

Jo Ann Rayfield, university archivist, has received funding to purchase conservation crates to properly house several paintings in the Stevenson Collection.  The paintings include portraits of Adlai E. Stevenson I, Lewis G. Stevenson and Adlai E. Stevenson III.

Toni Tucker, assistant to the dean of university libraries, has received funding to support the National Endowment for the Humanities exhibit, John Adams Unbound, on display at Milner Library between Sept. 2 and Oct. 18, 2009.  The funding will support local scholars presenting lectures and a brochure promoting the exhibit.
