Illinois State University's associate vice president for Human Resources, Ira Schoenwald, has announced he will retire effective October 1, 2009. A national search process for his successor will begin immediately.
Schoenwald joined Illinois State in June 2004 after serving as associate vice president of Faculty Affairs and Academic Resources at California State University Channel Islands. During his tenure at Illinois State, Schoenwald led numerous initiatives, including the introduction of new human resources technology, merging human resources functions within Academic Affairs and the Human Resources Office and creating a statewide human resources professional association to represent public university interests at the state level. Schoenwald was also a professor in the department of Politics and Government.
"Dr. Schoenwald truly moved Human Resources at Illinois State into the 21st century," said President Al Bowman. "His leadership brought the University new technologies, better customer-centered management and processes that allowed our Human Resources Department to meet growing institutional needs. We are all grateful for Dr. Schoenwald's outstanding service and wish him a happy and healthy retirement."
