Fourteen Illinois State University students will get a first-hand look at what it takes to make a democracy work during Illinois State University's inaugural Washington, D.C. Civic Engagement Study Tour, beginning July 21. The study tour, part of Illinois State's American Democracy Project, will be led by Robert Bradley, a professor of politics and government.
During the tour, students will hear presentations from the executive director of the Commission on Presidential Debates, the project director for the Make Voting Work initiative at the PEW Center on the States, and the president of Meyers and Associates, a large Washington lobbying firm. Visits to the White House, the Capitol, and the headquarters for the Rock the Vote project are also part of the tour, along with volunteer time at the Creative Center for Non-Violence homeless shelter.
