Mid-year salary increases will be given to 461 Illinois State University full and associate professors as part of President Al Bowman's Salary Enhancement Program.  The increases, which range from 0.5 to 6.2 percent, will begin with January's pay period, affecting professors from all six academic colleges and Milner Library.

Bowman unveiled the program in September 2005, calling it a long-term effort to raise the aggregate salaries of faculty and staff member groups closer to comparison group averages. Since then, nearly $3 million have been added to faculty and staff members salaries in addition to the merit-based raises that are associated with each fiscal year. In 2005, salaries for full professors lagged 14 percent behind comparison group averages while today it is about 10 percent.  For associate professors, the lag percentage in 2005 was over 10 percent compared to 6 percent today.  For assistant professors, the 2005 lag percentage was 2.2 percent while today, assistant professor salaries approximate comparison group averages. Administrative/ professional salaries are at or above comparison group averages, and civil service employee salaries are about a percent higher than peer group averages at universities with similar civil service classifications.

"Although we are facing a challenging economy, faculty and staff member compensation remains a top priority," Bowman said.  "As in past years, there remain small numbers of employees within the civil service and administrative/professional classifications whose salaries are below peer group averages.  We will continue to address those needs as funds become available."
