Illinois State University's Milner Library will host "Abe's Birthday Bash" on Thursday, Feb. 12, to honor Abraham Lincoln's 200th birthday. The celebration will take place on the main floor of Milner Library from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
In addition to the traditional birthday treats, the event will feature displays, readings and opportunities for visitors to express thoughts about Lincoln in the context of the 21st century.
A special exhibition, "Honoring Lincoln: President, Father, Husband, and the Person," showcases Lincoln in the numerous roles he played during his lifetime. The exhibition of literature, photos, letters and artifacts is displayed throughout the library. Displays focus on the representation of Lincoln in children's literature, Lincoln the family man, Lincoln's love for the circus, Lincoln as commander-in-chief, Lincoln's law practice, Lincoln's friendship with Jesse Fell and his ties to Central Illinois, photos of Lincoln and his wife, and the conspiracy formed by Lincoln's assassins. The Lincoln exhibition will be on display through December of this year.
