An event scheduled Feb. 8 by several Illinois State University groups is intended to raise awareness about street children and orphans worldwide.
Gala Benefit: An Awareness Evening about Street Children and Orphans will be held in the Circus Room of Bone Student center from 4 to 6 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. so that a coalition of professors, students and staff from Illinois State can share knowledge they have gained by working with, studying or adopting street children or orphans. Admission is $5 and proceeds will go to benefit innovative programs serving these children. Everyone is welcome to attend, although discretion is advised with younger children.
The event is sponsored by Global Children Outreach, Global Review, the University Program Board, Senior Professionals and the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
Guests will be able to circulate around the room and take part in question-answer stations, view clips from documentaries, see visual displays and purchase Global Children Outreach t-shirts and Crossroads Global Handcrafts products.
Tickets are available at the University Program Board office in Bone Student Center, at Conference Services in the ISU Alumni Center at 1101 N. Main St., Normal, and in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology in Schroeder Hall room 332. Light refreshments will be served.
Information about the event is available at the Global Children Outreach Web site at www.globalchildrenoutreach.ilstu.edu or by sending an e-mail to Maria Schmeeckle at mhschme@ilstu.edu
