Members of the Ailey II Dance Company of New York City, one of the most popular dance companies in the country, will be at Illinois State University Friday, Jan. 30, to teach a master class to Illinois State and University High School dancers.
The company, created by Alvin Ailey in 1974 as a workshop composed of the most promising scholarship students from The Ailey School, is in Central Illinois to perform that evening at the Bloomington Center for the Performing Arts. The master class at Illinois State will be from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in Centennial East room 116. Students from the Illinois State Dance Theatre and from Orchesis Intercity Dance Company will participate.
Under the artistic direction of Sylvia Waters, Ailey II embodies Alvin Ailey's pioneering mission to establish an extended cultural community that provides dance performances, training and community programs for all people.
