Climate change science and solutions will be the topic of two presentations at Illinois State University on Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 4 & 5. The events, which are free and open to the public, focus on climate change policy recommendations for the first 100 days of the Obama administration.
"Climate Change, What Do We Actually Know?" will be the subject of a presentation by Dagmar Budikova on Wednesday, Feb. 4 from 12-1 p.m. in the Bone Student Center 3rd Floor East Lounge. Budikova, an associate professor in the Department of Geography-Geology and GEOMAP program director, will give an overview of current climate change science. Her presentation is part of Illinois State's International Studies Seminar Series exploring topics in global politics and culture.
A faculty panel discussion on climate change solutions will take place on Thursday, Feb. 5 in the Bone Student Center Circus Room from 3-5 p.m. "Climate as a Broad Issue" will be the theme of the discussion from 3-4 p.m. Illinois State faculty panelists will be Joan Brehm, Sociology, "Green the Public Square;" Stephen J. Van der Hoven, Geography-Geology, "Water Supply;" and Jeffrey Courtright, Communication, "Let All Voices Be Heard."
Resources and Climate will be the theme of the discussion from 4-5 p.m. Panelists will be Dan Holland, Physics, "Fuel Efficiency or Alternative Fuels for Cars;" Johanna Haas, Geography-Geology, "Enforcement of Existing Laws;" and Thomas Bierma, Health Sciences, "Demand Higher Fuel Prices." The panel discussion is part of the National Teach-In on Global Warming Solutions.
