Painter, printmaker and political cartoonist Eric Garcia, will speak at noon Wednesday, March 4, at the University Galleries at Illinois State University. Admission is free and open to the public.
Garcia will be working with students and faculty in the School of Art through the middle of March. There will be an opening reception for Garcia from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 3, in the galleries.
Garcia is a 2008 recipient of the prestigious Jacob Javits Fellowship. A 2006 Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate of the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, he is currently a Master of Fine Arts candidate in drawing and painting at The School of the Art Institute, Chicago.
His political cartoons have won several national awards and he has exhibited throughout the Southwest, Chicago and Bolivia. The 2008 "Declaration Immigration" exhibition at the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago included his work.
