An opportunity to hear music stars of tomorrow (or the day after tomorrow) will be offered at a free concert by students in the Illinois State University String Project at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, in the Center for the Performing Arts Concert Hall. The public, as well as friends and families of students, is invited to attend
Established in 2001 by the School of Music and the American String Teachers Association, the ISU String Project is a community music program for children studying stringed instruments. The program offers low-cost instruction on violin, viola, cello and bass to students from 3rd through 8th grades. It is an effort to reach students who have no access to a public school string program.
The concert will feature 115 young string players from the Bloomington-Normal area as well as 15 students from the Chenoa satellite program established this semester at Chenoa Elementary School. The concert will showcase all five performance levels in the String Project and will feature a combined performance with eighth-graders from Thomas Metcalf School.
String Project is led by faculty members from the School of Music in collaboration with music education majors. School of Music Assistant Professor Adriana Ransom is the director of the String Project.
