Actor Danny Glover and his friend and fellow actor Felix Justice will portray 20th-century writers and orators Langston Hughes and Martin Luther King Jr. on Friday, Jan. 23, in Brown Ballroom at Illinois State University's Bone Student Center.
"An Evening with Martin and Langston," which is presented by ISU President Al Bowman and the NAACP student chapter, will be preceded by cocktails at 5 p.m. and dinner at 6. The cost of dinner is $15 for students and $25 for non-students. "An Evening with Martin and Langston" draws audiences into the worlds of two of the greatest writers and orators of the 20th century, Martin Luther King Jr. and Langston Hughes. Justice brings to life two of King's most memorable speeches, and Glover portrays Hughes, one of the 20th century's most celebrated writers, in theatrical readings. Following their respective performances, Justice joins Glover on stage for a question-and-answer session
Best known for his roles in the "Lethal Weapon" movies and the Academy Award-winning "Places in the Heart" and "The Color Purple," Glover also has been executive producer for several movies. He is deeply involved with many philanthropic and community service projects and has served as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Program since 1998.
Justice, who has been friends with Glover since both were struggling actors in San Francisco, is a native of South Carolina who has performed and directed many theater productions.
