Audition for the "Breath, Boom," a play to be presented in February by Illinois State University's School of Theatre, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, in Westhoff Theatre in the Centennial East building (corner of Beaufort and School streets).
Roles for 12 women and one man will be cast from local community members and university students. Auditioners should prepare a one-minute or less monologue or story to tell. No prior preparation is required. Additionally, the production seeks a female rapper between the ages of 20 and 30. Those interested should prepare a rap demonstration for the auditions.
"Breath Boom" by American playwright Kia Corthron tells the story of one woman's journey from inner-city gang-girl to grown-up. It follows young Prix as she goes from 16-year-old gang queen to mature, 30-year-old woman. The play is directed by School of Theatre's Sandra Zielinski.
Rehearsals for the play will be held from 7 to 11 p.m. Sundays through Fridays, beginning Jan. 18. The show opens Feb. 20 and runs through the Feb. 28.
