Assistant Professor Adriana La Rosa Ransom of Illinois State University's School of Music will present a cello recital at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28, in Kemp Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.
Ransom, who also is director of ISU's String Project, will play "Apreggione Sonata" by Schubert, '"Suite Italienne" by Stravinsky and "Requiebros" by Cassdo. She will be accompanied by several pianists. She will complete the recital performing the cello and guitar work, "Don Quixote y Dulcinella" by Erik Marchelie with Music Professor Angelo Favis playing guitar.
Ransom received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Missouri and her master's and doctoral degree from the University of Minnesota. As a soloist, she is the recipient of numerous awards, including winning top prizes at the WAMSO Young Artist Competition, the Naftzger Young Artist Competition, the Schubert Club Young Artist Competition and the Thursday Musical Society Competition.
She has appeared as a guest artist on notable solo and chamber music recital series, including the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series in Chicago. She has performed with many professional orchestras and ensembles, including the Minnesota Opera Orchestra, the Kansas City Symphony, the Minnesota Orchestra, the European Musical Festival Orchestra and New Ear Contemporary Ensemble.
