Illinois State University student Kyle T. Gregg of Waverly is the 2009 recipient of the Peter V. Vitucci Memorial Scholarship. The Vitucci Scholarship was created by family and friends of Peter V. Vitucci, a 1991 criminal justice sciences alumnus, who worked as a police officer with the Wood Dale Police Department. Vitucci died in an automobile accident in the fall of 1992.
Gregg, the 17th student to receive the Vitucci Memorial Scholarship, is a criminal justice sciences major. He is president of Illinois State's chapter of the Alpha Phi Sigma criminal justice sciences honor society. Gregg works both on and off campus, is a member of his hometown volunteer fire department and plans to pursue a career in policing.
The $1,000 Vitucci Memorial Scholarship is awarded annually to a criminal justice sciences major who has completed his or her junior year with a minimum 3.0 grade point average. The recipient must have the intent to work in the criminal justice field as well as possess high moral values and integrity, demonstrate leadership qualities, and be involved in activities of the Department of Criminal Justice Sciences and/or the University.
