Date: 4/21/09

Contact: Ted Mason tjmason@ilstu.edu

Illinois State University's Student Government Association (SGA) will have a new cabinet level position beginning this fall.  The SGA recently approved the creation of the position of secretary of sustainability.  The position, which will focus on campus-wide sustainability initiatives, will be filled for the first time in the 2009-2010 academic year.

The secretary of sustainability will be an appointed position from within the SGA and will work with University administration and governance bodies, registered student groups and external partners to promote sustainability efforts on campus.

Some duties of the new secretary will include finding new and innovative ways to address the recycling concerns of those living off campus, investigating the possibility of creating a sustainability fee, working to secure grant funding for sustainability efforts, and working with University and Town of Normal officials to coordinate broader sustainability efforts.
