Illinois State University's Documentary Project is hosting its third annual socio-political film festival on Wednesday, April 8, at 7 p.m. in Schroeder Hall, Room 138. A sneak preview of a documentary on the decision to keep Pontiac Prison open will be one of the featured films. This event is free and open to the public.
The festival includes compelling documentary videos addressing important socio-political issues. The films are created by college students, with past topics ranging from fuel prices to Darfur and freedom of speech. The festival creates awareness and a valuable outlet to encourage students to make their voice heard through documentary film-making.
In years past, the festival has showcased up to twelve films for its audience. This year's screening will include a collection of videos from "Living Democracy" video contest winners, "Film Your Issue" entries and four short issue films.
The Documentary Project will announce their annual Voice of Conscience Award winner at the film festival. The winner will have the opportunity to speak to the audience and provide a unique perspective on the importance of civic engagement, both in and outside of academia. A panel discussion by students, faculty and staff will take place after the film screenings.
