The celebration of President Abraham Lincoln's bicentennial year continues with a look at "Our Lincoln" on Tuesday, May 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Illinois State University's Alumni Center. The event will feature video excerpts from locally and nationally-produced programs on the life of Lincoln and a question and answer session with Lincoln scholars. The event is free and open to the public.
An opening reception will include a performance by the 33rd Illinois Volunteer Regiment Band. The event will include video excerpts from a number or programs including Lincoln's Illinois Scrapbook; Lincoln and Douglas at Galesburg: The Great Debate; various Illinois Adventures programs, produced by PBS affiliate WTVP; Lincoln: Prelude to the Presidency, produced by PBS affiliate WILL; and Looking for Lincoln, a PBS special hosted by historian Henry Louis Gates Jr.
A question and answer session will also be held with noted Lincoln scholars Mark Plummer, professor of history emeritus at Illinois State University, and Roger Bridges, founding editor of the Lincoln Legal Papers and former director of the Illinois State Historical Library.
