Illinois State University's Department of Criminal Justice Sciences has presented awards to four students to recognize their outstanding academic performance and community service.
Mark Lask, a senior from Edwardsville, is the first recipient of the McLean County Sportsman's Association Scholarship. This scholarship is for a criminal justice sciences major who has been accepted as an intern with the Department of Natural Resources/Conservation Police, has a minimum 3.25 GPA, and is interested in a career with DNR/Conservation Police.
Heidi Leininger, a senior from Countryside, is the recipient of the Criminal Justice Sciences Departmental Scholar Award for 2009. Leininger has the highest grade point average of all criminal justice sciences majors who have completed all of their coursework at Illinois State.
Caitlin McKenzie of Downers Grove is the 2009 recipient of the Criminal Justice Sciences Outstanding Community Service Award. Each year the department recognizes a senior who has distinguished him/herself through both scholarship and service to the community, has completed a minimum of 90 semester hours, 12 of which must have been in criminal justice, and has demonstrated exemplary community service.
Kevin Matthews, a senior from Seymour, has received the 2009 Criminal Justice Sciences Award as a Departmental Scholar (Transfer student). The award is given to a transfer student in criminal justice sciences whose grade point average is highest among those majors who have transferred into Illinois State.
