Date: 9/26/06
Contact: Marc Lebovitz

Flutist Kimberly Risinger of Illinois State University will present a faculty recital at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, in Kemp Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.

Risinger will be assisted by Paul Borg playing piano and harpsichord and Patricia Foltz also playing piano. Her program will include pieces by J.S. Bach, Sigfrid Karg-Elert, Cecile Chaminade, Shaun Bracey and James Willey. The last two pieces are fairly new. The piece by Shaun Bracey was composed in 2003 and the one by James Willey was written in 1994.

The principal flutist with the Illinois Symphony and Chamber Orchestras, the Sugar Creek Symphony and Song Opera Orchestra, Risinger also is a member of the Linden Flute and Guitar Duo and the Sonneries Woodwind Quintet. She performs with faculty colleague and clarinetist David Gresham in a newly formed ensemble, Difference Tones.

An active soloist, Risinger has given concerts throughout the U.S. and abroad, including concerts at Carnegie Recital Hall, Lincoln Center's Alice Tully Hall, Merkin Recital Hall, the Juilliard School of Music, the Kennedy Center and the Rotterdam Conservatory. In addition, she has given performances with the Chicago Jazz Symphony and at several National Flute Association Conventions. As an advocate for new music, Risinger often presents world premieres of works written for and dedicated to her. She has recorded for Albany Records, Vienna Modern Masters, Americana Music, and BWE Classics. A new solo CD of contemporary pieces for flute and piano will be released in the spring by Albany Records.
