Artist Bill Smith, whose undergraduate degree in chemistry and
biology play a role in his combining art and engineering, will be the guest
lecturer at noon Tuesday, Oct. 3, in the School of Art Visiting Artist
Program at Illinois State University.
Admission is free and open to the public.
A University of Illinois MFA graduate in sculpture, Smith creates are that comments on the interconnected, independent, mechanical character of the world. He will speak in the University Galleries in the Center for the Visual Arts. A 2002 Illinois Arts Council Fellowship Award winner, he has been in exhibitions in the Biennale Montreal, The Chicago Cultural Center and the Toronto Alternative International Art Fair.
Smith will be in residence in the School of Art through Oct. 22. The next visiting artist will be Jef Scharf, who specializes in drawing and printmaking. He will be on campus Oct. 23 to Nov. 19 and will present his guest artist lecture at noon Tuesday, Oct. 31, in the University Galleries.
