Illinois State University s Eric Mascari of Rockton is the 2007
recipient of the Peter V. Vitucci Memorial Scholarship. The Vitucci
Scholarship was created by family and friends of Peter Vitucci, a 1991
Criminal Justice Sciences alumnus who worked as a police officer with the
Wood Dale Police Department. Vittuci died in an automobile accident in the
fall of 1992.
Mascari, the 15th student to receive the Vitucci Memorial Scholarship, is a criminal justice sciences major. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1999 to 2005 with three tours of duty in the Middle East and is currently in the Naval Reserve. Mascari earned two Congressional Certificates of Merit and was awarded Sailor of the Quarter in 2003 and Sailor of the Year in 2005. He is a member of Illinois State University s Alpha Phi Sigma, Innocence Project and the Criminal Justice Association and was a Bone Scholar nominee and a member of the Dean s List. Mascari plans to earn a master s degree in the criminal justice field and then work for the Naval Criminal Investigative Service.
The $1,000 Vitucci Scholarship is awarded annually to a criminal justice major who has completed their junior year with a minimum 3.0 grade point average. The recipient must have the intent to work in the criminal justice field as well as possess high moral values and integrity, demonstrate leadership qualities and be involved in activities of the Criminal Justice department and/or the University.
