Peoria Native's Earthquake Photos At Milner Library, Jan. 16

Date: 1/8/07
Contact: Eric Jome

Photographs taken by a Peoria native during the aftermath of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and fire will be on display at Illinois State University's Milner Library from January 16 through March 9. The exhibit, "Earthquake 1906," chronicles the destruction in 29 black and white prints and will be on display on the main floor of the library.

The prints in the exhibit are part of a larger collection of more than 50 photos taken by Peoria native Karolinn Schmidt O'Conner who was in San Francisco during the 1906 earthquake. The photos were restored and compiled into the exhibit by O'Conner's great niece Becky Dailey, a photo restoration specialist from Metamora.

Dailey will be at Milner Library on Thursday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. for a special presentation on the exhibit. Her presentation will include a brief documentary on the San Francisco quake and information on her great aunt's photography and how the photos were restored for the exhibit.
