Transpace Gallery Offers Something Sweet

Date: 2/16/07
Contact: Marc Lebovitz

An exhibition of art by three bachelor of fine arts students at Illinois State University s School of Art will open Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Transpace Gallery, 107 W. North Street in Uptown Normal. The exhibition and opening reception, from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 20, are free and open to the public.

Something Sweet, which features the works of Pamela Shahtaji, Dan Mrva and Stephanie Lebak, playfully exploits the physical notion of paint, while contorting the definition of its application. The artists create candy-like installations, sculptures, and hanging art. The exhibition closes March 7.

Transpace Gallery is open from 4 to 7 p.m. weekdays and from noon to 5 p.m. Saturdays. For more info on the gallery and the show, visit www.ilstu.edu/~jedegea Transpace was created several years ago by the School of Art, in cooperation with the Town of Normal, to provide art students with an opportunity to curate public shows, display their work and gain experience in professional art.
