Lawry's the Prime Rib is a landmark Chicago restaurant which
partnered with The Field Museum for its presentation of "Tutankhamun and the
Golden Age of the Pharoahs" currently on showing through January. In
connection with that theme, Lawry's is going to feature the Egyptian-themed
paintings of Illinois State University Art Professor Cynthia Kukla for a
two-day exhibit, Aug. 25 and 26, at Lawry's, 100 E. Ontario Street.
Kukla met Lawry's marketing director Sharon Fine at the opening of the King Tut exhibition and their discussion led to Lawry's interest in showing more than 20 oils, acrylics and watercolors by Kukla, a Chicago native and Illinois State School of Art faculty member since 1993.
A cocktail reception will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. each of the two days. The cost is $15 per person. Reservations for the reception can be made by calling Lawry's at (312) 787-5000.
Kukla, who will be a visiting professor of art at Aristotle Thessaloniki University in Greece this fall, has been in three museum shows in 2006 including Watercolor USA 2006 in Springfield, Mo., and will be inducted into the national Watercolor Honor Society later this year.
