Collier Faculty Percussion Recital Sept. 5

Date: 8/28/06
Contact: Marc Lebovitz

"The Ebb and Flow of Time" is the title of a recital by Illinois State University School of Music faculty member David Collier to be presented at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, in Kemp Recital Hall. Admission is free and open to the public.

Colliers's performance will feature recent compositions demonstrating the perception of musical and physical time through various pallets of acoustic and electronic timbres. The concert will explore both the rhythmic and sonic possibilities of acoustic percussion while interweaving it with an electronic partner. Collier will perform "Time Mark" for solo percussion and electroacoustic accompaniment by Scott A. Wyatt.

Also on the program are "A Feast of Thunder" by Sherwood Shaffer and "Waves" by Per N rg rd. These works, for solo timpani and multiple percussion respectively, do not include electronics, but their exploration of sounds and repetitive motives act to displace the listener's perception of time in a collage of percussive colors. Collier will be joined by percussionists Aaron Kavelman and Michael Malgoza in "Monster Mudder Truck Pull," a very unique percussion trio.
