Interdisciplinary artist Jason Manley of Arizona will be the first
guest in the Illinois State University School of Art Visiting Artist Program
lecture series at noon Tuesday, Sept. 5. Manley will speak in the University
Galleries. Admission is free and open to the public.
Manley, whose residency on the Illinois State campus will continue through Sept. 23, received an MFA degree in painting in from the University of Arizona in Tucson in 2004 and a BFA in 1998 from the University of Kansas. His interdisciplinary art practice incorporates drawing, sculpture, installation and performative actions. He engages a variety of materials and approaches to deal with topologies that explore the relationship between nature and culture.
Manley's active professional trajectories include solo and group exhibitions, residencies, grants, fellowships, lectures and teaching. Of special note is a 2004 solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tucson and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant he received in 2005.
Future visiting artists in the program will be Bill Smith from Sept. 25 to Oct. 22 (guest lecture at noon on Oct. 3) and Jeff Scharf from Oct. 23 to Nov. 19 (guest lecture at noon on Oct. 31).
