Fraternity and ISU Police Co-Sponsor Alcohol Awareness Program April 18

Date: 4/9/07
Contact: Marc Lebovitz

A program to take place on the Illinois State University quad from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, sponsored by the ISU Police and the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, will seek to raise awareness of the problem of drinking and driving, and will focus attention on safe driving habits for the Illinois State University community.

The event will take place on the Schroeder Plaza at the north end of the quad and will have representatives from the ISU Police, Normal Police Department, McLean County Sheriff's Police, Bloomington Police Department and Illinois State Police. Illinois State University organizations participating will be Phi Kappa Psi, the Health Promotions Office and Sexual Assault Survivor Services.

Two attention-grabbers to be displayed are The Convincer, a machine donated to the Illinois State Police by State Farm Insurance, and The Roll Over Machine from Tri-County Operation Cool. Both machines are intended to encourage vehicle occupants to use their seat belts while driving or riding. Police agencies will use the Fatal Vision and Fatal Reaction kits which simulate the affects of alcohol on the human body.
