When it comes to older Americans making long-term healthcare decisions, a certain amount of fear and anxiety can be expected. Those concerns multiply for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) population.
“The United States is not an isolated country,” said Rita Bailey, assistant provost. “As the world becomes smaller through globalization, we want to be prepared, and we need to continue to internationalize the Illinois State University campus.”
“Students need to be able to speak broadly about diversity,” said Dakesa Piña, a staff counselor with Illinois State University’s Student Counseling Services. “It’s a subject that should be incorporated into their everyday lives.”
Culminating the Fall Speaker Series will be acclaimed civil rights lawyer, advocate and legal scholar Michelle Alexander at the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Dinner on Friday, Jan. 20, in the Bone Student Center Brown Ballroom.
