While some pundits claim libraries of today have made a 180-degree change during the digital age, Dean of University Libraries Sohair Wastawy thinks the change is more like 360 degrees. She sees the current and future library returning to the ancient library mission of being a center for learning.
Attitudes about homosexuality affect residence hall life for all students, not just those who identify themselves as LGBT. This was the overall finding in research conducted by Michael Fanucce, residence hall coordinator in Hamilton and Whitten halls at Illinois State University.
The Women’s Mentoring Network started in fall of 2003 to assist beginning or returning women students. The mentors are campus female professionals who help create a welcoming environment for the students to ease their transition into higher education.
“We’re building with families, not for families. We’re giving people a hand up, not a handout.” That is how Gary Klass, Illinois State University associate professor of Politics and Government and project director for the ISU-IWU Habitat for Humanity chapter, describes the organization’s community-focused mission.
