To help the University address the growing need for diversity in curricular offerings, the Latin American Studies minor began in 1971 with seven women and four men. Today the minor, now called Latin American and Latina/o Studies, enrolls 27 students, with four men and 23 women, and has more than 50 affiliated faculty and staff from across campus.
Lezah Brown’s inspiration for a career in the environmental health field came at an early age. “My grandmother was a public health nurse in Chicago,” said Brown, an assistant professor in the Department of Health Sciences. “When I was a girl I used to go with her to the public health clinic where she worked.”
Tiffany Tiberi is first and foremost a counselor to students looking for one-on-one guidance. But since coming to Illinois State University a year and a half ago, she has also created a space for herself as an advocate and educator. As a psychologist in Student Counseling Services, Tiberi’s area of expertise and interest is in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) issues.
Concurrent with the College of Fine Arts’ 40th anniversary this year is the 40th anniversary of the School of Theatre. Also marking an anniversary in the college this year is the School of Theatre’s Crossroads Theatre, renamed The Crossroads Project to show the increased depth of offerings over the past 10 years (photo from In the Blood production).
